Description
The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for two 1.0 FTE Kindergarten Regular Education Teacher Assistants at Northside Elementary School beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Projected start date: August 18, 2025.
Required Abilities
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Learn and utilize basic methods of procedures specific to kindergarten classrooms.
- Demonstrate patience, understanding of and enthusiasm for working with young learners.
- Use correct, age-appropriate language with kindergarten students.
- Maintain a nurturing and supportive environment for young children.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with students and staff.
- Participate in workshops, etc., focused on early childhood education and kindergarten-specific topics.
- Learn and utilize special procedures unique to kindergarten, such as positive behavior management techniques and basic first aid methods appropriate for young children.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist with the supervision of kindergarten students (including the lunchroom and playground).
- Prepare and organize age-appropriate instructional materials for kindergarten teachers.
- Operate educational technology and equipment suitable for kindergarten learners.
- Assist with organization and management of learning materials and manipulatives.
- Work with kindergarten students individually and in small groups to support their learning and development.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized kindergarten classroom environment.
- Support kindergarten students in developing social-emotional skills and self-regulation.
- Assist with age-appropriate assessments and observations of kindergarten students\’ progress.
- Collaborate with kindergarten teachers to implement daily routines and learning activities.
- Participate in parent-teacher communications as directed by the lead teacher.
- Complete additional tasks as requested by kindergarten teachers and administrators.

Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of education beyond high school or 48 post high school credits preferred.
- In lieu of post high school education, acceptable proficiency scores for WorkKeys ACT assessment are required.
- Some paid or volunteer experience working with young children (ages 4-6) in an educational or child care setting preferred.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of age-appropriate educational software for Kindergartners..
- Familiarity with early childhood development principles and practices.
