Northcroft School is a specialist setting for pupils in Years 7 to 11, offering a personal, nurturing environment alongside specialist professional support. We work with young people with needs including SEMH, ASD, ADHD and past trauma, helping them feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
The role involves appointing a passionate, skilled and committed Teacher who can deliver high-quality Science teaching and support our pupils to re-engage with learning, build confidence and make progress. Working under the direction of the Executive Headteacher, you will help maintain a culture of excellence in learning and teaching, where every pupil is known, valued and supported. Our students are vulnerable young people with a range of needs, and they benefit from consistent relationships, strong routines and staff who remain calm, patient and relentless in their commitment to helping them thrive.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging Science lessons across KS3 and KS4, adapting learning to meet individual needs
- Create a safe, consistent classroom environment and manage behaviour effectively
- Identify gaps in prior learning and use assessment to plan next steps and targeted support
- Work closely with colleagues, support staff and multi-agency professionals to provide a joined-up, holistic offer
- Contribute to curriculum development and whole-school improvement
- Support students’ personal development, wellbeing and positive attitudes to learning
- Build positive relationships with families and carers, working in partnership to support progress
For KS3, Science is delivered through Oak Academy, progressing into GCSE Science via AQA. Where appropriate, standalone qualifications are offered for students with lower prior attainment.
Essential:
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
- Strong classroom practice, including planning and assessment
- Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 effectively (or the willingness to develop this)
- A calm, consistent approach to behaviour and creating a safe learning environment
- Ability to adapt teaching to meet a wide range of needs and close gaps in learning
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- A clear commitment to safeguarding and professional standards
Desirable:
- QTS/QTLS (or willingness to work towards QTS)
- Experience in a SEN or specialist setting
