0.4 FTE – 14.8 hours a week – Fixed term for 38 months

The Faculty of Arts, Computing & Engineering at Wrexham University is seeking to appoint a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in Cyber & Computing. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with a strong academic background and an interest in teaching and research. The role combines practical experience in academic delivery with enrolment on a fully funded MPhil programme, with the possibility of progression to PhD study.

As a GTA, you will play a vital role in supporting academic staff in the delivery of seminars, tutorials, and group-based learning activities. Working under supervision or in liaison with department staff, you will help to ensure a high-quality student experience by contributing to curriculum delivery, assisting with lecture and seminar preparation, and providing academic support through drop-in sessions and feedback. You may also be involved in practical classes, field trips, and outreach activities, working alongside technical staff where appropriate.

You may also be involved in academic and administrative activities that support the smooth delivery of teaching and enhance the student experience. These can include assisting with marking, preparing assessments, supporting risk management procedures, and contributing to student recruitment events such as open days and school visits. Where appropriate, there may also be opportunities to engage with research activities aligned with your area of study.

To be considered for this role, you must hold at least a 2:1 honours degree in a relevant discipline such as Cyber Security, Computing, or a closely related field. You should possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, and demonstrate an understanding of the UK higher education system and student support needs. A postgraduate qualification, professional membership, and prior teaching experience are desirable but not essential.

This is a fixed-term position linked to the duration of the MPhil/PhD programme. The successful candidate will be expected to enrol on a full-time research degree and maintain satisfactory academic progress in parallel with their GTA duties. In return, you will gain invaluable teaching experience, mentorship from experienced academics, and access to professional development opportunities designed to support your growth as an educator and researcher.

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person at our Wrexham campus.
