Scholars School System is seeking to appoint a qualified Career Guidance professional to support our Graduate Outcomes. The role is centred around strategic outcomes, meaning the officer is leading and supporting initiatives that ensure students are successfully transitioning into the professional workforce. This includes developing, coordinating, and delivering programs and activities that enhance employability, create strong industry connections, and support long-term career success while embedding career planning into the curriculum.
The Career Advisor plays an important role as part of the placement team, delivering strategic outcomes for the institution. Working closely with the Associate Dean of Student Success, the careers advisor will support the development of career goal setting for current and graduated students, while working with colleagues across the organisation to sustain and support SSS in meeting its key objectives and targets.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Offers career planning and guidance for students
- Embed career planning and guidance into the curriculum from level 4
- Provide one-to-one career support interventions
- Coordinates the collection of final CVs, exit surveys, and graduate readiness documents
- Builds strong employer partnerships to increase graduate employment and placement opportunities
- Verifies that students have met all academic and placement requirements for graduation
- Provides strong communication to all alumni, through newsletters, emails, and periodic telephone calls
- Assures alumni are equipped with appropriate language to describe their graduate outcomes
- Contributes to alumni network newsletter, website, and communications programme
- Provides career advice and guidance to graduates of SSS programming
- Manages a database of graduate outcomes, ensuring timely and accurate record keeping
- Uses conditional formatting and pivot tables to assist in clarity of data storage and reporting
- Communicates to line management about any changes in graduate outcomes
- Works collaboratively as part of a team and contributes to team objectives
- Develops a sound understanding of the operations of the college
- Works with central services to ensure students are registered for graduation events
- Represents SSS in external networks and events related to graduate success
- Attends student award events, career services events, and graduation events
- Commits to a programme of continuous professional development and undertakes periodic training and professional development activities
Person Specification
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area
- Holds at minimum a Level 6 qualification in career guidance, i.e., Diploma in Career Guidance and Development. Level 7 qualification is preferred
- Experience of UK Higher Education landscape, with a minimum of 24 months work in a Higher Education administrative capacity
- Excellent interpersonal skills
