Senior Project Engineer in Warrington

Mission:

Lead the engineering delivery of Industrial & Process Automation projects, ensuring safe, high-quality and cost-effective technical solutions that meet customer requirements and project objectives. Acting as a technical expert and mentor, the Senior Project Engineer supports successful project execution, drives engineering excellence, and collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to contribute to business growth and customer satisfaction.

The role involves regular travel to customer sites across the UK and occasional international travel, including extended periods on site when required.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical delivery of Industrial & Process Automation projects, ensuring solutions are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
• Design, develop, configure, and implement automation systems, including hardware, software, control systems, and supporting documentation.
• Review, approve, and maintain engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, regulations, cybersecurity requirements, and Schneider Electric processes.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead system testing activities, including FAT, SAT, integration testing, and customer acceptance testing.
• Support the installation, commissioning, and handover of automation systems, providing technical leadership throughout project execution.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks and opportunities, contributing to effective project planning and successful delivery outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers, customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, fostering professional development and engineering excellence within the team.
• Support sales, bid, and service teams by providing technical expertise, delivery estimates, solution development, and customer-facing support where required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, sharing best practices and driving innovation across engineering activities.

Skills & Attributes:

• Proven experience in the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), preferably Foxboro and Triconex or equivalent technologies.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation, control systems, and the full project lifecycle, from design and implementation through commissioning and support.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems, telemetry, industrial networking, and software engineering principles.
• Understanding of industrial cybersecurity concepts and best practices within operational technology (OT) and control system environments.
• Experience with digital communications technologies, system integration, testing methodologies, and cloud-enabled solutions.
• Ability to lead engineering activities within complex projects, managing technical risks, priorities, and delivery objectives.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, project teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience within at least two of the following industries: Oil & Gas, Pharmaceuticals, Food & Beverage, Utilities/Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), Renewable Energy, or Cybersecurity.
• Fluent in English and legally authorized to work in the UK without sponsorship.

Education

• Degree, HND, HNC, or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience in industrial automation and control systems.

For this UK based position, the expected pay range is GBP 46,400 - GBP 69,600 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United Kingdom. Our pay ranges are determined by the local market.
