Apprentice Level: UK Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship Programme
Salary: £21,000 per annum
Role Mission: As a Test Engineer, you will ensure product quality at every stage of manufacturing and delivery in line with Quality Management guidelines. You will conduct quality measurements, perform diagnostics when necessary, and implement contingency plans as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure component conformity with engineering drawings by managing incoming inspection and metrology activities within the plant, while maintaining the safety of personnel and property in the work area.
- Define and continuously improve standard inspection protocols in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
- Perform equipment system qualification, including Gage R&R studies.
- Optimize inspection methodologies by leveraging the best available techniques and tools.
- Support production and quality engineers in verifying part conformity against specifications during quality issues, utilizing component metrology.
- Manage the calibration program for all measurement equipment within the plant.
Training:
During your apprenticeship, you will receive two different types of training. ‘On-the-job’ training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, as your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform the job you’ve been hired to do. This will include skills and knowledge that fall outside of the apprenticeship but are needed for the job role. As well as providing ‘on-the-job’ training, it is important that we support you in additional ways to ensure your success. Types of support will include:
- A comprehensive induction
- Mentoring or regular one-to-one guidance
- Social enrichment and networking opportunities
- Performance reviews
- Mental health and wellbeing support
- Feedback opportunities
‘Off-the-job’ training is delivered by one of our carefully selected Training Providers during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% (average 6 hours per week) of your working hours completing ‘off-the-job’ training. This is protected time and is a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard so you can achieve occupational competence.
Work Pattern:
37.5 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday. Exact start and finish times are to be agreed upon with Line Manager. Some of these hours will be allocated to off‑the‑job training as part of your Apprenticeship Programme.
Monday to Thursday: 07:55 to 16:25
Friday: 07:55 to 13:25
Skills and Attributes:
Essential:
- Demonstrable interest in an engineering discipline
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately
- The ability to work as a team member and possess good interpersonal, communication, and literacy skills.
- Highly motivated, a desire to learn, and a good record of attendance.
- High level of flexibility and dependability
Desirable:
- To be PC literate and familiar with Microsoft Office or equivalent software
- Aptitude for practical science or engineering skills
Education:
A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent), at Grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and a science related subject and achieved either a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering or a minimum of 90 credits in a Level 3 BTEC.
Previous Experience Required:
No pre-requisite experience required but a demonstrable interest in engineering through school or hobby interests.
