The Residential Controls business within the Schneider Electric group is a global provider of devices used to control heating, hot water, humidity and cooling in domestic and small commercial installations and is expanding into the world of Smart Products. The business is investing heavily in new product design, market expansion and further development of existing markets. In particular, it has created an exciting new range of Internet and cloud-connected smart products to exploit the opportunities provided by the rapid growth of connected products. Most of the product range is manufactured at facilities in Plymouth, UK under the Drayton brand.

Your mission is to support the development and delivery of new technologies and practices within a future-focused global manufacturing company on a permanent dayshift development role. We are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Test Engineer who will work with the manufacturing engineering team to assist in developing efficient and reliable testing solutions. You will need to achieve the highest standards of quality while eliminating waste and increasing productivity. Ours is a busy and fast-paced environment, and we will look to you to think on your feet, work collaboratively and have confidence in your decisions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Manufacturing Engineering Team and a team of established professional experienced engineers to develop test and programming solutions to support existing products and develop solutions from NPI coming from Development Engineering.
  • Provide support to production when Level 1 and 2 team members have investigated for fault diagnosis.
  • Establish and support improvement projects for reduction of test failures to improve production efficiency.

About you:

We’re looking for someone with a passion for success — on the job and beyond. You will need to be open to developing and being challenged. We are looking for you to be team orientated, versatile, open-minded and autonomous. To succeed in the role, you will need experience of automated testing solutions in an industrial manufacturing environment. You will need an understanding of coding languages including C#, C++. You will also need experience in databasing using SQL Server and a background in electrical or electronic engineering or software engineering and testing coupled with an awareness of mechanical manufacturing processes. Ideally, a strong understanding of programming solutions for Silicon Labs, ST, TI and Linux-based solutions would be an advantage as we are now developing in-house solutions for programming. Some understanding of Automation / Controls Systems and how they function would be an advantage. Sound understanding of Electronic schematic drawings. Test Software Platforms (ideally C++ and C#). Labview is an advantage but we are gradually phasing out. Data Analysis using Excel. Ergonomics / Health and safety, and an awareness of overall behavioural standards and compliance in the workplace.

Qualifications:

Ideally a Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering but would consider supporting a programme of development with Min HNC/HND. Relevant time served preferably in high volume manufacturing environment around 10 years experience.
