Quality Inspector Apprentice in Leeds

As a Quality Inspector within our Quality team, your mission is to control incoming products through various inspection techniques, complete sample inspections of new parts, and inspect problematic parts causing manufacturing issues. This plays a pivotal role in advancing our manufacturing solutions and driving operational excellence. The Leeds plant of Schneider Electric focuses on manufacturing and assembling electrical distribution and control equipment, including products like switchgear, transformers, and components that support energy management and automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure component conformity according to engineering drawings by managing incoming inspection and metrology activities inside the plant and ensuring safety of persons and property in the working area.
• Utilize traditional and modern digital inspection techniques to measure mechanical components.
• Inspect accurately and efficiently to maintain quality in a fast-paced environment.
• Report issues when necessary, providing clear information to relevant parties.
• Develop new inspection plans for new components and create programs on CMM, VMM, etc.

Training

During your apprenticeship, you will receive two different types of training. On-the-job training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, as your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform the job you’ve been hired to do. This will include skills and knowledge that fall outside of the apprenticeship but are needed for the job role. As well as providing on-the-job training, support will be provided in additional ways to ensure your success. Types of support will include:

• Feedback opportunities.

Off-the-job training is delivered by one of our carefully selected Training Providers during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% (average 6 hours per week) of your working hours completing off-the-job training. This is protected time and is a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard so you can achieve occupational competence.

Work Pattern

37.5 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday. Exact start and finish times are to be agreed upon with the Line Manager. Some of these hours will be allocated to off-the-job training as part of your Apprenticeship Programme.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

• Read and understand drawings.
• Use inspection techniques to fully measure complex mechanical components.

Desirable

• Adaptable to resolve problems.
• Flexible to react to a fast-paced production environment.
• Inquisitive to understand manufacturing processes and component applications.

Education

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), at Grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and a science-related subject, and achieved either a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering or a minimum of 90 credits in a Level 3 BTEC or an equivalent technical qualification.

Previous Experience Required

No pre-requisite experience required.
