Job Title: Commissioning Service Engineer – HV/LV Switchgear
Location
London / South of England / Midlands – Travelling appointment role
Your Mission
To perform installation, commissioning, modification, and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment at UK and overseas locations. This involves travelling to various locations in the UK and abroad, working in a flexible 24/7 rotating shift pattern.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and perform activities on switchgear, transformers, and related equipment (400V – 33kV) at UK, overseas, and offshore locations.
- Off-load and install new panels, switchgear, and transformers.
- Commission electrical equipment, perform wiring modifications, and retrofit upgrades.
- Conduct planned maintenance, including visual inspections and intrusive tests.
- Perform partial discharge testing, thermal imaging, oil sampling, and systems testing.
- Install EAA sensors and hardware.
- Ensure a safe working environment by performing site risk assessments and producing method statements.
- Document test results and produce site reports.
- Contribute to offers for site activities and assist with work tests.
- Participate in customer training and promote company services.
- Provide emergency support as part of the OnCall rota system.
- Supervise onsite personnel, including team members and subcontractors.
- Liaise with installation and project managers.
Important Criteria
- Produce site reports and test results within 2 working days.
- Complete timesheets and expenses weekly.
- Complete health & safety documentation weekly.
- Complete method statements and risk assessments within set timescales.
- Complete installations and maintenance tasks against deadlines.
About You
- Experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of switchgear and associated plant.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team at UK, overseas, and offshore locations.
- Customer-focused with a service-oriented attitude.
- Willing to work at nuclear, military, and offshore sites.
- Hold a full driving license.
- Strong grounding in electrical safety principles for live HV networks.
- Academic qualifications (e.g., Degree/HNC) or relevant experience.
- Experience with high voltage testing (415V – 33kV), CT magnetisation curves, and primary injection.
- Experience with relay secondary injection (electromechanical and solid state) and VT primary injection.
