Commissioning Service Engineer – HV/LV Switchgear

Location – Scotland

We’re looking for a Commissioning Service Engineer to join our team in Scotland, working on HV/LV switchgear, transformers, and electrical distribution systems across the UK and overseas. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a field‑based, problem‑solving environment, enjoys variety in their work, and wants to develop expertise in installation, commissioning, maintenance, and fault diagnosis.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, commission, and maintain switchgear, transformers, and related equipment (400V–33kV).
  • Perform testing and diagnostics, including Partial Discharge, thermal imaging, and oil sampling.
  • Lead on‑site activities, supervising teams and coordinating with project managers.
  • Work flexibly, including travel across the UK and internationally, as part of a 24/7 on‑call rota.
  • Produce reports and documentation to ensure high standards of work completion.
  • Proactively identify and communicate on‑site opportunities for additional services, upgrades, or solutions that enhance customer operations and align with Schneider Electric offerings.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with electrical distribution systems, switchgear, or transformers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose faults in electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of HV/LV systems and electrical safety regulations.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexibly, including some overseas assignments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to supervise teams on‑site.

Required Experience

  • High Voltage Testing (415 v – 33 kv systems).
  • CT Magnetisation Curves – complete using variac/volt & ammeter as well as CT analyser; also polarity check without CT analyser.
  • CT Primary Injection – standard protection (OC/EF/Metering) configuration & high impedance scheme such as Bus Zone protection.
  • Relay Secondary Injection (both electromechanical and solid‑state relays) – include current & voltage protection.
  • VT Primary Injection.
  • Control Circuit Wiring testing & modification – prove each panel to the associated schematic diagram & fault find; must be able to read schematic diagrams.
  • Mechanical/Electrical function testing of 415 v – 33 kv switchboards & networks.
  • G59 G99 protection – Under/Over Voltage, Under/Over Frequency, ROCOF/dF/dT.
  • Basic secondary Injection sets such as Sverker 760/780, T&R 100/200ADM, T&R DVS3.
  • Knowledge of B.E.B.S. S12 (1964) wire identification standard as used in all UK HV switchgear.
  • Knowledge of basic transformer protection devices & associated test methods.
  • Operational knowledge of basic auto‑changeover schemes.
