We are currently recruiting for an Escalator Service Engineer to join our team based in London working on a four on, four off night shift basis between 7pm and 7am for one of our clients in London. The successful candidate will carry out planned preventive maintenance regimes as determined by the contract terms to on portfolio escalator equipment, complete Schindler safety inspections, and close any open non‑conformity to current legislation or standards. The role includes improving equipment condition to reduce technical call‑backs and minimise downtime, performing minor repairs, and lifecycle replacement of components. The engineer will adhere to all company safety and conduct procedures, cover an on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours calls, maintenance and repairs, and work full time and permanently.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing of escalator equipment, including minor repair work and the routine replacement of components in accordance with approved company procedures (PPE, PDA, 2+ etc).
  • Rectify and reduce faults on escalator equipment in cases of breakdown and confirm correct functioning.
  • Perform checks including speed, motor start/stop, noise, temperature and power supply using approved company issued tooling and protective equipment.
  • Carry out routine inspection, adjustment and reinstatement of escalator installations in accordance with approved procedures, and complete service documentation.
  • Carry out fault‑finding and diagnostic procedures using a range of techniques, technical manuals, and appropriate test equipment, restoring equipment to service.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Qualified to NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in Escalator Maintenance.
  • Proven experience in Escalator servicing, maintenance and repairs.
  • Competence to make effective use of written or graphical information.
  • Passionate about customer service and consistently provide a high level of service to internal and external customers.
  • Team player, supportive of colleagues and willing to assist when required.
  • Proactive, able to identify and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to forward‑plan departmental requirements and work to deadlines.
  • Good problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills at all levels (client, Service Leader, Inspectors).
  • Full UK driving licence (walking routes may not require this qualification).
  • Commitment to all company safety, health, environmental and quality policies and procedures.
  • Attendance at all relevant training sessions.
  • Contribute to the company's safety objectives and the Safety Management System.
  • Adherence to Schindler's Core Values and UK legal requirements.
