Join us as a Lift & Escalator Service Engineer.
As a Lift & Escalator Service Engineer, you'll play a key role in maintaining a mixed portfolio of lift and escalator equipment across London and the South region. This is a genuinely dual-skilled role, requiring strong technical expertise across both product lines to support planned preventative maintenance, fault-finding, repairs and breakdown response activities. Working across a diverse customer portfolio, you'll help maximise equipment reliability, improve performance and ensure the safe operation of critical vertical transportation systems. This role is ideally suited to an engineer who is comfortable working across both lifts and escalators and enjoys the variety and technical challenge that comes with a multi-product environment.
Your main responsibilities:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across a mixed portfolio of lift and escalator equipment in line with contractual requirements and safety standards.
- Performing routine servicing, adjustments, minor repairs and component replacements on lift and escalator equipment.
- Responding to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and restoring equipment to service efficiently, minimising downtime and disruption.
- Conducting operational, safety and performance checks across electrical and mechanical systems.
- Completing advanced fault-finding and diagnostic activities using technical documentation, schematic drawings and approved testing equipment.
- Carrying out inspections, testing and adjustments to improve equipment reliability, performance and customer satisfaction.
- Supporting standby cover requirements and critical customer sites where service responsiveness is essential.
- Identifying recurring technical faults and implementing corrective actions to reduce downtime and callbacks.
- Reinstating equipment safely following maintenance and repair activities.
- Accurately completing service reports, maintenance records, risk assessments and associated documentation.
- Building effective working relationships with customers, site representatives, inspectors and colleagues.
- Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.
Who you are:
Essential:
- Proven experience servicing, maintaining and fault-finding on both lift and escalator equipment.
- NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering, NVQ Level 3 in Escalator Engineering, or equivalent industry-recognised training and experience.
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding capability across both product lines.
- Experience working on a broad range of lift products, including traction and machine room-less (MRL) systems, controllers, operating panels and associated door equipment.
- Experience maintaining and fault-finding on escalator systems and associated equipment.
- Strong diagnostic capability, with the ability to identify faults, carry out effective repairs and determine when specialist support is required.
- Ability to interpret and work from technical documentation, drawings and schematic diagrams.
- Solid understanding of industry safety standards, risk assessments, safe systems of work and compliance requirements.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance, breakdown attendance and repair activities.
- Ability to accurately complete service documentation, maintenance records, risk assessments and site reports.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality and customer service.
- Good communication skills with customers, colleagues and inspectors.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- A full driving licence valid for use in the UK.
Desirable:
- Experience working across multi-brand lift and escalator equipment.
- Experience within transport, infrastructure or other high-footfall environments.
- Manufacturer product training across lift and escalator systems.
- Experience supporting critical customer sites and standby cover arrangements.
- Additional technical qualifications relevant to lift or escalator engineering.
