Your Role
Service Technician (Night Shift) – a permanent night shift role operating on a 4 on 4 off pattern, from 7 PM to 7 AM. You will play a key role in maintaining and servicing lift and escalator equipment across your assigned portfolio.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out routine servicing of lift/escalator equipment, including minor repair work and routine component replacements, in accordance with approved company procedures (PPE, PDA, Expert+, etc.).
- Rectifying and reducing faults on lift/escalator equipment in cases of breakdown and checking to confirm correct functioning.
- Checking the lift/escalator function as part of maintenance; checks to include speed, motor start/stop, weight, noise, temperature, and power supplies using approved company-issued tooling and protective equipment.
- Carrying out routine inspection and adjustment of lift/escalator equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
- Reinstating lift/escalator equipment and completing service documentation.
- Carrying out more advanced fault-finding and diagnostic procedures using a range of techniques, technical manuals, and appropriate test equipment, restoring equipment to service.
- Competence is required to make effective use of written or graphical information.
- Carrying out site surveys and attending all relevant training sessions to keep up to date on technical knowledge and skills.
- Working in accordance with the Company’s safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current UK legal requirements and Schindler Group safety requirements, as well as setting a personal example of safe behaviour.
- Contributing to the Company safety objectives by maintaining/monitoring current safety systems under your direct control and implementing agreed changes (where applicable) to its safety management system.
What You Bring
- Experience in lift/escalator servicing, maintenance, or repairs preferred.
- Qualified to NVQ Level 3 minimum in lift/escalator maintenance or equivalent.
- Advanced electrical and mechanical knowledge, including experience with multi-brand equipment.
- Advanced problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and achieve efficiency targets.
- Ability to work independently with a flexible approach.
- Good communication skills at all levels (clients, service leaders, inspectors).
- Manual dexterity — requires the use of hands, arms, and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate various hand and power tools, and to record written information.
- Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good administration skills and punctuality.
- Full UK driving licence.
