Who are Schenk UK Ltd: Schenk UK is a leading national tanker logistics business, operating one of the largest road tanker fleets in the country. For over 60 years, we have provided specialist transport services across the chemicals, gas, fuels, waste, and powders sectors, and today we are one of the UK's largest chemical transporters.
We are looking for a talented Transport Planner to join our team at our Stockton depot, working on our ICL contract. This is an exciting opportunity for an organised, motivated and customer-focused individual to play a key role in the day-to-day planning and coordination of a busy transport operation. You will work closely with our customer, drivers and wider planning team to ensure work is planned efficiently, service levels are maintained and any operational issues are dealt with quickly and effectively.
The Role: As Transport Planner, you will be responsible for coordinating the efficient movement of LGV tanker vehicles, including single and multiple deliveries to customer sites across the country. Communication is a key part of the role. You will ensure drivers have a clear understanding of their daily transport plan, monitor the progress and completion of work, and keep the customer informed of job status, delays or changes throughout the day. You will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced transport environment where plans and priorities can change at short notice. You will use your judgement to respond to operational challenges and customer requirements while maintaining a high level of service.
What are we looking for? Ideally, you will have previous experience within transport planning, particularly within an LGV, logistics or tanker environment. However, we are also interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong planning, organisational and customer service skills within a fast-paced operational environment. You will be:
- A confident and effective communicator
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Customer-focused with the ability to build strong professional relationships
- Calm and solutions-focused when dealing with changing priorities or operational challenges
- Commercially aware and able to consider both service and operational efficiency when making decisions
- Confident working with drivers and operational colleagues
- A good problem solver with the ability to make decisions and use your own initiative
- Comfortable working as part of a busy and collaborative team
- Flexible and willing to adapt when operational requirements change
- Experience of using transport planning systems would be advantageous, although full training will be provided. You will also need good IT skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Working Hours: Your normal working hours will be Monday to Friday, 10:00–18:00. As part of the role, some flexibility will be required to support the wider planning operation. On occasion, you may be required to work the 06:00–14:00 shift to provide cover during periods of absence or leave. We are therefore looking for someone who is able to be flexible with their working hours when reasonably required. This role is based at our Stockton depot and provides dedicated planning support to the ICL contract.
The Package: In return, you will receive a salary of £37,000 per annum, together with a range of benefits including:
- 25 days' annual leave plus 8 bank holidays
- Company pension scheme
- Access to Schenk Perks, our employee benefits and reward platform, offering discounts across hundreds of well-known brands, high street retailers and holidays
- Employee Assistance Programme, providing confidential wellbeing and support services
- Cycle to Work and Tech Schemes
- The opportunity to develop your career within a strong, established and growing international business
