Schenk UK is an innovative national tanker haulage business operating one of the largest road tanker fleets in the UK.
For over 60 years, we’ve proudly served the chemicals, gas, fuels, waste, and powders sectors, making us the UK’s largest chemical transporter.
Due to continued growth in our fuel sector, specifically Bitumen, we are seeking an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join our Planning team at the Eastham site.
As a Senior Planner, you will take a lead role in delivering high-quality, cost-effective logistics solutions for our customers.
You will oversee the efficient movement of LGV tanker trailers nationwide, ensuring compliance, optimisation, and exceptional service standards.
This position requires strong leadership, advanced planning skills, and the ability to manage complex operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the planning of driver and vehicle resources to meet delivery and collection schedules.
- Oversee daily transport plans, ensuring accuracy and timely communication to drivers and customers.
- Optimise route planning and resource utilisation using Transport Management Systems (e. g., Microlise) and MS Excel.
- Monitor KPIs such as OTIF, mileage efficiency, and vehicle utilisation, implementing improvements where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with WTD, drivers’ hours legislation, and all statutory requirements.
- Act as a key point of escalation for operational issues, providing solutions quickly and effectively.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal teams, drivers, and customers to ensure service excellence.
- Support and mentor junior planners, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
- Ensure accurate reporting of incidents, defects, and compliance documentation.
- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives and process improvements within the transport function.
Experience & Skills Required
- Proven experience in a senior planning role within the transport/logistics sector.
- Strong knowledge of UK geography and tanker operations.
- Advanced understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Transport Management Systems and MS Office (Excel essential).
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness and experience working in a cost-sensitive environment.
