Based in Christchurch, this permanent full-time role offers something different from a typical painting job. About the Role

This is a hands-on painting position responsible for maintaining the presentation and quality standards of Scenic Hotel Group properties throughout New Zealand. You'll work across guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and exterior building surfaces, completing a wide range of painting, refurbishment, and finishing projects. The role is based in Christchurch but requires regular travel and periods working away from home at hotel locations throughout the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interior and exterior painting to a professional standard
  • Surface preparation including sanding, filling, sealing, priming, and plaster repairs
  • Application of paints, stains, varnishes, and protective coatings
  • Minor GIB and plasterboard repairs
  • Wallpaper removal and surface restoration where required
  • Assisting with refurbishment and property improvement projects
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy work environment
  • Working collaboratively with hotel teams and contractors across the Group

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their workmanship and enjoys delivering quality results. You'll ideally have:

  • Proven experience as a painter and decorator
  • Strong preparation and plaster repair skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and manage your workload
  • A commitment to workplace health and safety
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence
  • Flexibility to travel and work across different locations throughout New Zealand

Advantageous but not essential

  • Spray painting experience
  • Working at Heights certification
  • EWP (Elevated Work Platform) certification
  • Wallpaper installation and removal experience
  • Experience working in commercial, hospitality, or accommodation environments
