Scendea is seeking an experienced and dependable Finance Officer to join our global team in a permanent part-time, office-based role at our UK office in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire. This role is offered on a twenty-hour per week basis, spread daily across Monday-Friday during office hours, with some flexibility on the set working pattern. Reporting directly to the Finance Director within a small team environment, the role will closely collaborate with them to manage day-to-day financial operations and support the Finance Director in ensuring accurate and timely financial information, effective financial controls, and compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

This is a role designed for an experienced professional who enjoys a hands-on role and values structure, clear accountability, and a healthy work-life balance. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and highly organised, with strong process-oriented skills, capable of supporting across functions within the business. Ideally suited to an individual with proven Senior-level experience, able to work fully autonomously and confidently assume FD and CFO responsibilities for short periods, including holiday cover.

Requirements
  • Manage day-to-day accounting processes and financial operations, including AP/AR, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Closing of the monthly accounts and preparation of all supporting analyses and reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and statutory financial statements under UK GAAP.
  • Assisting budget holders in monitoring and tracking the performance of budgets and deliverables.
  • Raise sales invoices, process purchase invoices, pay suppliers, and resolve associated queries.
  • Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns, ensuring compliance with VAT regulations.
  • Maintain and apply established internal control procedures.
  • Support the Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer in annual budgeting, re-forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Assist in the preparation for audits and liaise with auditors as required.
  • Support tax compliance activities and liaise with external tax advisers under direction.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards and company policies to ensure compliance.
  • Support the implementation of process improvements in finance operations and reporting.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and data support as required by the business.
  • Support colleagues within the back-office functions on ad hoc tasks and projects as required, fostering effective cross-team collaboration.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability, taking on additional responsibilities or activities as required, in alignment with evolving business needs.
Skills and Experience
  • A CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualification.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in an accounting practice or business analyst-related role.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage the completion of tasks to deadlines.
  • Experience in reviewing and interpreting financial information, with the ability to communicate insights to a range of key stakeholders.
  • UK payroll experience is preferred, and exposure to multi-jurisdictional or international payroll would be considered a strong advantage.
  • Data manipulation and analysis using Excel or similar tools.
  • Exemplary organisational and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail, and the proven ability to work both proactively and autonomously.
  • High level of verbal communication and presentation skills in English, computer literacy, and competency in MS Office programs.
