Adult Skills Tutor Location: South Yorkshire (Place based) Position Type: Full-time, this is a fixed term position with a view to make permanent subject to contract award in July 2027. Job summary

We are seeking an experienced Tutor who will focus on delivering high-quality qualifications within the Education and Training sector to adult learners across South Yorkshire. You will plan and deliver engaging, place-based cohort programmes through a blend of face-to-face community delivery and virtual classroom sessions. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as the role requires regular travel to community and delivery venues across the region, including; Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.

You will provide effective teaching, assessment and constructive feedback, supporting learners to achieve their qualifications and progress towards their academic, personal and career goals. You will work with adult learners who may be seeking employment or looking to upskill within their current role, providing individualised support that reflects their circumstances, learning needs and career goals while ensuring a positive, inclusive and well-coordinated learning experience.

Key Responsibilities - Deliver high-quality teaching, assessment and constructive feedback to adult learners undertaking; Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools, Level 2 Certificate in Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values and Level 3 Certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools qualifications. - Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and place-based cohort programmes through face-to-face sessions within South Yorkshire communities and, where appropriate, through virtual classroom delivery. - Use knowledge of South Yorkshire, its communities and the needs of local residents to tailor delivery, remove barriers to participation and create relevant learning experiences. - Build positive relationships with learners from a range of backgrounds, recognising the social, economic and personal circumstances that may affect their participation, achievement and progression. - Promote and safeguard the welfare of all learners by maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment. Identify and report concerns promptly and comply fully with SCCU's safeguarding policies and procedures. - Take responsibility for achieving agreed performance KPIs, including learner engagement, retention, achievement, progression and satisfaction. - Assess learners' work accurately and consistently, providing timely, constructive feedback that supports improvement and successful qualification completion. - Provide impartial and ongoing information, advice and guidance to help learners make informed decisions about their learning, career and progression pathways, including opportunities available through the Adult Skills Fund and relevant local provision. - Respond promptly and professionally to learners' questions, concerns and support needs. - Develop effective working relationships with South Yorkshire partner organisations, community groups, employers and support agencies to strengthen local engagement and learner progression. - Signpost learners to appropriate support services, including counselling, wellbeing and financial support available through Life & Progress and other relevant local agencies. - Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records in accordance with quality, funding and compliance requirements.

Qualifications / Experience - Teaching Qualification at level 3 or above - Qualified Teacher Status - Assessor qualification Level 3 - Experience of working in education, as a tutor with a demonstrable track record of successful outcomes. - Knowledge of educational systems, programs, and resources - Familiarity with online learning platforms, educational technology, and learner information systems. - Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and other support staff. - Organisational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. - Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. - Experience of supporting learners with SEND - Experience of working with adult learners who are currently unemployed - Experience of working with learners ranging from Entry level to level 3. - Willing to work towards a Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Lead qualification Skills / Attributes - The ability to promote continuous improvement in the quality of the work of the company and to raise standards of achievement for learners at all levels. - Leadership skills and the ability to motivate learners. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and partners across all parts of the organisation. - Excellent planning, organisation, IT and administrative skills, the ability to see projects through to a successful conclusion, and a generally high level of efficiency. - Aptitude for hard work, the ability to take initiative, a flexible approach and an ability to implement change.
