We are now seeking a 2yr+PQE qualified legal counsel to support a Head of Legal based in Birmingham. Reporting to the Head of Legal, this role has the scope to make a real impact within the business as we continue to grow organically and through strategic acquisitions.
In your Legal Counsel role, you will possess a wide understanding of legal principles, enjoy working with different internal business teams and have experience in a high-performing commercial setting. We're particularly interested in lawyers with significant experience in IT contracts, (particularly product/SaaS resale and managed service provider arrangements, cloud service provision, cyber security and data protection). This is a significant opportunity to further develop a commercial contracts career and become a key player in the legal team as it expands to accommodate business growth.
Within a relatively short period you will need the ability to work independently within your role with regular support, oversight and guidance from the Head of Legal and to be able to implement SCC's established risk profiles and practices without the need for detailed day to day supervision at a transactional level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for commercial transactions, including general customer contracts, MSAs, consultancy arrangements, supplier terms and conditions, non-disclosure agreements.
- Develop and maintain standard SCC template contracts for improved business efficiency and to reflect dynamic changes in solution portfolios and methods of doing business.
- Join customer calls to answer questions about our legal and commercial risk profile, our product and service offerings, and our operational policies and practices.
- Work independently in collaboration with expanding commercial and compliance teams on various deals under end of month, quarter, and year end pressures.
- Assist in various legal or cross-organisational activities or projects and liaise with the other functions in the company.
- Handle ad-hoc legal and compliance queries and provide legal support across the SCC group of technology companies.
Training and qualification from a well-recognised commercial law firm and/or in-house team is highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and strong attention to detail are essential.
Experience working with commercial contracts for customers and clients is required. Exposure to intellectual property law is beneficial. You should be able to consume & communicate information to internal and external stakeholders and execute at fast speed, and work well in a fast-paced and agile environment. Strong business vs risk acumen with the ability to thrive in a commercial-oriented sales and customer-first environment is necessary. You will have excellent organisational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a can-do work ethic.
Please note - this role requires you to have BPSS and SC security clearances.
SCC is committed to providing equal opportunities and a proactive and inclusive approach to equality and diversity in employment. No applicant or employee will be treated less favourably than another on the grounds of a protected characteristic.
If you are selected for interview, and need any reasonable adjustments made for your interview, please let the SCC Talent Acquisition team know, at the point of scheduling.
