Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Security, the Security Guard will be responsible for:

  • Prevention of theft and property vandalism
  • Controlling access to the facility and restricted areas within
  • Maintaining order and enforcing regulations within the facility

Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate of a Law Enforcement Program from a recognized community college
  • Current license with the Private Security and Investigation Act
  • Minimum 3 years prior security experience
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience with hospital security practices and procedures
  • Police and Criminal Background check
  • Thorough and complete knowledge of all hospital Emergency Codes
  • Demonstrate compliance with and support of hospital and departmental directions and interpretation and compliance with hospital and departmental policy and procedures
  • Ability to deal effectively with the general public
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to handle stressful and delicate situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent communication, documentation, interpersonal and teamwork skills and demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
  • Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area, including demonstrated understanding of Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Exposure to LEAN principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and commitment to the use of these in support of departmental operations and corporate objectives
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and report hazards
