The role
We’re looking for an Assembly Operator within commutable distance of our Bala North Wales factory to support the build and delivery of mechanical and opto-mechanical systems. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, this is a hands-on role focused on precision, quality, and consistency, working closely with the wider production teams to ensure products meet defined specifications and performance standards. Working week is 39 hours from Monday to Thursday: 06.15 to 16.30 or 07.15 to 17.30.
Experience, education and skills
- Assemble, adjust, and test subassemblies and devices in line with drawings and work instructions
- Complete assemblies to specification, ensuring conformance and quality standards
- Prepare customer devices to sales orders, including software installation and system setup
- Inspect finished devices against test protocols and requirements
- Record production times within the ERP system
- Prepare material requisitions and deviation reports (including scrap and material issues)
- Contribute to Lean principles to improve quality and efficiency
- Submit modification proposals to support product and quality improvements
- Carry out tasks assigned or approved by the supervisor

What we’re looking for
- Background as a precision mechanic, fine mechanic, or similar
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work independently, cleanly, and precisely
- Good understanding of technical drawings
- Interest in optics and photonics
- Good computer skills
- Experience in machine operation, production lines, or assembly environments (preferred)
- Knowledge of quality control processes
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to procedures
- Ability to contribute to training and support operational processes
