We're recruiting a Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Designer to deliver high-quality electrical and control system designs across multiple water treatment frameworks. You'll produce design deliverables for clean water and wastewater treatment projects, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and reporting to project lead engineers.

This is a senior design role for an experienced EC&I designer with a proven background in water treatment design. You'll produce safe, practical and economic designs to professional standards, delivering drawing office deliverables that meet client specifications and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
- EC&I Design & Technical Delivery
- Produce high-quality electrical, control and instrumentation design deliverables
- Deliver designs to a high standard of professional competence and compliance
- Produce drawing office deliverables including:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Cable Schedules and Material Take Offs
- Block Control Diagrams (BCDs)
- Schematics and System Architecture Diagrams
- Equipment and Cable Routing Layouts
- Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Ensure all designs are safe, practical, economic and meet client specifications
- Work with CAD to produce accurate technical drawings
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Check drawings in accordance with company procedures
- Ensure compliance with UK legislation and standards
- Maintain design quality and accuracy
- Support design reviews and technical approvals
- Collaboration & Coordination
- Liaise with other engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, process)
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure integrated delivery
- Engage with clients and stakeholders on technical matters
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and site visits as required
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- MUST HAVE: Clean water and/or wastewater treatment experience - proven background designing electrical systems for water treatment facilities
- ONC / OND / HNC / HND or equivalent engineering qualification
- Minimum 10+ years' engineering experience in water sector or similar infrastructure environments
- Proficient in CAD software - able to produce accurate technical drawings
- Good knowledge of:
- Design working practices and installation requirements for water treatment
- UK legislation and standards for electrical and control systems
- Water treatment processes and plant layout
- Electrical system design for process applications
- Strong communication skills - confident engaging with colleagues and stakeholders
- Safety and risk management focused - work with safety at the forefront of all activities
- Customer focused - commitment to delivering to client specifications and expectations
- Highly motivated - takes ownership of design delivery and technical excellence
- Attention to detail - accuracy essential in technical design and documentation
Desirable
- Experience on major water treatment or wastewater projects
- Knowledge of water treatment process requirements and their electrical/control implications
- Experience with BIM and integrated design management
- Familiarity with design for manufacturing and commissioning
- Experience attending FATs and supporting commissioning
The Role in Practice
You'll work on a hybrid basis on various water treatment frameworks, reporting to project lead engineers. Ad-hoc office visits, site visits and Factory Acceptance Test attendance will be required as projects progress. This is hands-on technical design work on water treatment projects. You'll be producing detailed electrical and control system designs, checking work for compliance, and liaising across disciplines to ensure integrated delivery. Your CAD proficiency, design accuracy and water treatment knowledge directly impact how effectively designs support manufacturing and commissioning.
