We're recruiting a Senior Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) Engineer to deliver design and technical expertise across multiple UK water sector frameworks. You'll produce outline and detailed EICA designs, manage technical documentation, conduct site surveys, and support commissioning activities on water infrastructure projects.

This role is for an experienced water treatment engineer with extensive UK water project background. You'll be responsible for producing cost-effective, compliant EICA designs that can be effectively purchased, installed and commissioned. You'll conduct surveys, review supplier quotations, prepare technical assessments and ensure all designs meet specification and regulatory requirements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • EICA Design & Technical Delivery
    • Produce outline and detailed electrical, instrumentation and control designs for water treatment projects
    • Develop cost-effective designs that meet specification requirements and can be effectively installed and commissioned
    • Prepare technical bid assessments and review supplier quotations for EICA equipment
    • Ensure all designs comply with relevant specifications, UK legislation and standards
    • Prepare equipment and materials requisitions for EICA systems and equipment
    • Prepare installation scopes of work for construction and commissioning teams
  • Technical Assurance & Documentation
    • Prepare, check and approve engineering documentation in accordance with company procedures
    • Review sub-contractor designs to ensure compliance with specification requirements
    • Ensure all work meets applicable national and international codes of practice
    • Support compliance with ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive and EMC requirements
    • Maintain accurate technical documentation and design records
  • Site & Commissioning Activities
    • Conduct site surveys to inform design decisions and validate design assumptions
    • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at supplier premises and produce test reports
    • Provide construction and commissioning support on-site as required
    • Review and validate designs during site implementation
    • Support resolution of technical issues during commissioning
  • Compliance & Standards
    • Ensure knowledge of UK water treatment industry standards including WIMES
    • Maintain awareness of risk identification, quantification and management
    • Ensure HSE requirements are met across all design and technical work
    • Support installation of equipment in potentially explosive areas where relevant

About You

  • Essential Qualifications & Experience
    • Degree in relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering) - Apprenticeships considered if supported by equivalent professional standing
    • MUST HAVE: Significant experience on UK water treatment projects
    • Minimum 10+ years' engineering experience in water sector or similar infrastructure environments
    • In-depth knowledge of: Water treatment facility design and delivery, UK water industry standards and practices (including WIMES), Electrical, instrumentation and control systems for water treatment, ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive and EMC compliance requirements
    • Strong understanding of: Design working practices and installation requirements for water treatment, UK legislation and standards relevant to water utilities, Equipment specification, sizing and selection, Cost-effective design approaches, Awareness of risk identification, quantification and management and HSE requirements
    • Strong communication skills - confident engaging with colleagues, clients and stakeholders
    • Safety and risk management focused - work with safety and risk at the forefront
    • Customer focused - commitment to meeting specification requirements and client expectations
    • Highly motivated - takes ownership of design delivery and technical excellence
  • Desirable
    • Experience in water treatment processes - understanding of treatment plant operations and requirements
    • Familiarity with process automation and control systems
    • Track record of site surveys and Factory Acceptance Testing
    • Experience on large, complex water infrastructure projects
    • Knowledge of renewable energy or sustainability systems in water treatment
    • BIM or integrated design management experience

The Role in Practice

You'll report to the project lead engineer and work on water sector frameworks. This is hands-on technical work on water treatment projects. You'll be producing EICA designs, conducting surveys, reviewing equipment quotations and supporting commissioning activities. You'll be the technical authority on EICA matters for your assigned projects, with responsibility for design quality, compliance and effective implementation. Your expertise in water treatment and EICA systems directly impacts how projects are delivered.
