The Role:
- Lead and develop the organisation’s SHE culture, ensuring safety is embedded across all operations.
- Provide strategic oversight and direction to SHE functions across the business.
- Drive continuous improvement and go beyond compliance to elevate SHE performance.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board, leadership teams, and wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- SHE Strategy & Programme Development
- Set strategic direction for SHE activities aligned with business goals.
- Develop and continuously improve SHE programmes to ensure compliance and drive cultural change.
- Champion behavioural safety initiatives (e.g., Safety Observations, Toolbox Talks).
- Lead the development and evolution of Carbon Reduction Plans and other environmental initiatives.
- Empower teams to take ownership of health, safety, and environmental outcomes.
- Promote and manage proactive Risk Assessment & Mitigation strategy across all levels of the business.
- Ensure Compliance Management with all Nuclear safety requirements and HSE legislation and standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Develop, implement and deliver HSE training plans, ensuring practices are understood and adopted.
- Lead incident investigation processes (including near misses and environmental breaches) and ensure effective root cause analysis.
- Develop, maintain and improve HSE policies and lead initiatives to improve emergency planning and business continuity procedures.
- Communicate SHE performance, risks, and opportunities to the Board and Senior Leadership Team as the company’s point of contact.
- Monitor the effectiveness of SHE programmes and performance metrics, manage data, reporting and audits (Board reports, ROSPA, ECOvadis).
- Provide leadership, direction, and coaching to the SHE team.
