The Role

As the EC&I Engineer, you’ll be the go-to person for all Electrical, Control & Instrumentation matters across the site. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, your focus will be on ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all EC&I systems, while supporting plant operations, projects, and maintenance. This is a hands-on, highly visible position where you’ll be shaping EC&I standards, leading projects from concept to commissioning, and driving ongoing improvements in performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the site SME for EC&I – ensuring safety, compliance, and reliability.
  • Lead and support EC&I projects – from scoping through to commissioning.
  • Provide expert technical support to maintenance and operations teams.
  • Ensure compliance with COMAH, ATEX, DSEAR, SIL, IEC 61508/61511 and other relevant regs.
  • Support hazard studies (HAZOP/LOPA), audits, and inspections.
  • Manage contractors and liaise with key stakeholders, including HSE and the Environment Agency.
  • Maintain site documentation, technical drawings, and safety-critical standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement and mentor junior engineers.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or related).
  • 5–10 years\’ experience in a similar EC&I role, ideally in a high-hazard chemical or petrochemical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of process control systems (PLC, DCS), instrumentation, and LV/HV systems.
  • Familiarity with functional safety, SIL verification, and risk-based assessments.
  • Working knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX, and IEC standards.
  • Chartered status (or working towards) is desirable.
