We are currently working with a client whose production is continuing to grow so we’re looking for an additional Maintenance Engineer/Fitter to join their team in Avonmouth. You’ll play a key role in keeping the site running smoothly by carrying out preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy plant equipment. This is a hands‑on role working closely with the Shift Supervisor, production teams and contractors to ensure all maintenance activity is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You’ll build a strong understanding of the plant, support ongoing improvements, and help ensure all maintenance systems comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily, weekly and monthly planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with manuals and manufacturer instructions, ensuring accurate logging.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop and manage consumables.
- Take responsibility for spares, sourcing suppliers, and ensuring critical items are readily available to minimise downtime.
- Provide hands‑on guidance and training to support teams with preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Diagnose faults and complete breakdown repairs to keep the plant running.
- Contribute ideas and actions to reduce downtime and boost production performance.
- Support the site during staff shortages and attend call‑outs when required.
- Carry out any other reasonable maintenance‑related tasks.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum five years’ experience in a heavy industry maintenance environment (aggregates, concrete, mining, waste, or similar).
- Strong ability to fault find and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Preferably qualified to CGLI, NVQ, BTEC or HND level.
- Experience with Hydraulics (packs, ram seals, valves, hoses).
- Basic welding and fabrication ability.
- Ability to fault find and repair low‑voltage electrical equipment.
- Strong team player with the ability to train and motivate others.
- Capable of reviewing, maintaining and improving PPM systems.
- Self‑motivated, organised, able to manage priorities and work independently.
- Flexible approach and willing to be contacted out of hours.
- Basic industrial electrical knowledge.
- IOSH or other recognised safety training.
- Mobile plant operating certificates, ideally with the ability to train others.
- Confident, diplomatic communicator.
