A leading independent nuclear engineering group is looking for a Systems Engineer to join its Derby-based team on a major defence programme. You’ll shape system requirements, interfaces and architecture, and you’ll help keep safety information controlled and up to date across a large body of engineering data. They are looking for a graduate with +3 years experience to deliver systems engineering across their client project.
The Role
- Produce and manage requirement specifications
- Manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical and process systems
- Define system architecture and model system functions and interfaces
- Work with requirements management tools (DOORS preferred) and model-based systems engineering software (Capella preferred)
- Coordinate safety information so it is managed centrally in a single DOORS safety module
- Model the safety case decomposition (Level 0 to Level 4) and maintain links to supporting evidence
- Produce metrics and status reports for senior leaders
- Carry out data audits and spot checks, and suggest process improvements
- Work with safety teams, engineering and technical staff, project management teams and document controllers across the programme
Early priorities include updating safety goals, creating missing links between safety goals and safety functional requirements, and producing a major baselined version of the modules. A methodical approach to large data sets matters; however, training in the safety process and DOORS will be provided.
About You
- Degree in engineering or a STEM subject, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Three years’ experience as an engineer or senior engineer
- Understanding of systems thinking and systems engineering processes
- Experience in a complex, regulated industry such as nuclear or aerospace
- Mechanical or electrical engineering background, or a clear desire and ability to move into systems engineering
- Eligible for SC clearance, and a UK national
- Experience in the nuclear industry
- Systems engineering training or qualifications
- Practical experience using DOORS as a practitioner
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering
- Awareness of relevant BS or INCOSE standards
- Safety case knowledge and experience with data import, input and link creation in DOORS
