About the Company

Role Purpose
The Senior Estimator will develop tender information into robust and competitive cost estimates for major building projects, helping the business secure work and meet financial targets. You will also support preconstruction, framework, and target cost projects, providing expertise in risk and opportunity analysis and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare full financial elements of tender submissions from initial identification through to handover.
- Assist Senior Project Estimators on larger projects to produce competitive cost estimates.
- Prepare cost plans, monitor costs on live projects, and contribute to framework and target cost projects.
- Work closely with preconstruction, design, procurement, and commercial teams to maximise opportunities and minimise risks.
- Undertake risk and opportunity analysis, preparing fully costed schedules for tenders.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial documents and use of the company’s estimating systems.
- Liaise with external clients, joint venture partners, and subcontractors as required.
- Support post-tender negotiations and provide cost input for value engineering, programme options, and temporary works.
- Mentor and guide junior staff, sharing expertise and promoting best practice.
- Champion electronic tendering, integration of BIM, and sustainability including net carbon zero costing.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and ethical standards, including Health & Safety and Environmental regulations.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Senior Estimator on Tier 1 building projects (£100m+), ideally including commercial, defence, or MOD sectors.
- Strong understanding of the building sector, procurement, and risk management.
- Experience with large-scale tenders, cost planning, and financial control.
- Ability to mentor and lead junior estimating staff.
- SC clearance eligibility preferred.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of BIM, electronic tendering, and sustainability in construction is highly desirable.
Practical Information
Base location: London / Hertfordshire, with some homeworking (up to 2 days/week). Must spend at least one day per week in London to work with the pre construction team.
Salary: up to £105k plus benefits.
