Overview:
We’re currently recruiting for a Principal Planning Engineer to join a dynamic and growing team supporting key infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a commercially focused role, ideal for someone confident leading their own project planning activities while effectively contributing to a wider team. This position will support pre- and post-contract stages, helping deliver successful outcomes across the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead planning activities across multiple projects, working closely with the Project Controls Manager.

Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and client representatives.

Provide accurate scheduling, analysis, and forecasting aligned with contract requirements.

Monitor and manage project risk, change, and schedule variations, proposing mitigations where necessary.

Collaborate with project and contractor teams to ensure realistic and achievable schedules.

Support the recruitment and development of the planning function as projects scale.

Ensure appropriate handovers are arranged during periods of absence.

Strong understanding of the interaction between time, cost, and commercial factors throughout the project lifecycle.

Proven experience in managing schedules through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.

Skilled in the development and implementation of planning procedures and reporting.

Ability to analyse and interpret Earned Value metrics.

Experience working in highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Defence, or Oil & Gas.

Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ACostE, APM).
