Control, Electrical & Instrumentation Responsible Engineer
The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Control, Electrical & Instrumentation (CE&I) Responsible Engineer on a long-term contract basis to lead the CE&I design and engineering delivery on a transformational nuclear decommissioning infrastructure project. This is a senior technical management role delivering critical utilities infrastructure upgrades on a significant infrastructure programme at a Nuclear licensed site.

You will lead CE&I designers – both internal engineering teams and external consultants – ensuring designs are delivered on time, within budget, and in full technical compliance with nuclear site requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring all designs are safe, sustainable, and efficient to construct. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic programme management on one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.
The Project
The framework will deliver critical utilities infrastructure refurbishment and replacement across a nuclear decommissioning site covering essential utilities including steam, water systems, compressed air, bulk chemical supply, and sewage treatment. You will be overseeing the detailed design, procurement, installation, construction, commissioning and handover of these strategic utility assets.
What You Will Be Doing
CE&I Technical Leadership- Lead CE&I designers, both internal teams and external consultants/subcontractors
- Be the technical authority in CE&I design, responsible for the quality and integrity of all deliverables
- Manage the CE&I design and engineering aspects of the programme, meeting nuclear licensed site requirements
- Perform own design work and review/approve deliverables from others
- Ensure designs are delivered on time, to budget, and in full technical compliance
- Ensure all designs are safe, sustainable, and efficient to construct
- Manage design workflows and implement management systems, including digital processes
- Identify, quantify and manage technical risk throughout the design lifecycle
- Ensure HSE requirements and all UK legislation and standards are met
- Provide stakeholder assurance that design works are conducted appropriately
- Implement and deliver strategic objectives whilst managing change effectively
- Lead technical management of complex utility infrastructure design
- Support procurement and contract strategies for design delivery
- Manage information, quality and assurance aspects of design delivery
- Work collaboratively with project teams, clients and nuclear site stakeholders
- Represent CE&I at the highest level in technical discussions and meetings
- Lead and mentor the CE&I engineering team
About You
Essential Experience & Qualifications- Minimum 15 years’ engineering experience in the nuclear industry
- Degree in relevant engineering discipline and Chartered or Incorporated engineer status with a relevant professional body, or clear evidence of working towards these professional titles
- Authority in CE&I design with proven track record of leading complex technical projects
- Extensive experience of utility infrastructure design and technical management
- Demonstrated capability in understanding, reviewing and approving CE&I design deliverables
- Experience implementing and delivering strategic objectives and managing change in complex environments
- Extensive knowledge of UK legislation, standards and nuclear regulatory requirements
- Strong awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and HSE requirements
- Leadership experience in managing technical teams and external consultants/subcontractors
- Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with strong technical writing ability
- Meticulous and methodical approach with strong attention to detail
- Extensive experience setting up and/or operating EDMS and design workflows
- Experience leading wider engineering aspects of projects such as information management, quality or assurance disciplines
- Experience in multiple infrastructure markets and sectors
- Experience developing and implementing procurement and contract strategies for design delivery
- Background in nuclear sector or heavy infrastructure projects
The successful candidate will need to obtain SC (Security Clearance) as part of this role. BPSS is required for immediate start.
