Electrical Engineer β Power Distribution
The Opportunity
- We are currently recruiting for an experienced
- Electrical Engineer to join a major engineering project based in
Hartlepool .
This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical engineer with strong experience in industrial power distribution systems , particularly
11k V and 400V , to take a key role in the delivery of electrical infrastructure within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
The successful candidate will provide technical engineering support across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility, design and contractor engagement through to construction, installation, testing and commissioning.
You will work closely with project managers, construction teams, contractors, designers, customers and other engineering disciplines to ensure electrical works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical, quality, cost and programme standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of
11k V and 400V power distribution systems for a large industrial site.
- Manage the technical interface with the
Distribution Network Operator (DNO) , including supporting and negotiating technical agreements for new electrical connections.
- Provide engineering oversight of the installation, commissioning, modification and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Coordinate electrical works within live and regulated environments , ensuring compliance with safe systems of work, permit requirements, applicable standards and procedures.
- Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager on electrical infrastructure matters.
- Produce and maintain engineering documentation, including technical specifications, quality plans, drawings and supporting documentation .
- Manage and respond to technical queries in accordance with established processes.
- Support contractor selection and contract placement activities.
- Undertake technical reviews of contractor documentation, designs and drawings.
- Carry out technical appraisals of project options and provide sound engineering recommendations.
- Undertake feasibility studies and electrical site surveys.
- Develop effective working relationships with designers, contractors and customer engineering teams.
- Prepare Engineering Changes and coordinate associated supporting and affected documentation.
- Review commissioning documentation and oversee testing and commissioning activities where required.
- Provide technical engineering advice and support across projects and business activities.
- Author and verify technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare technical proposals and engineering responses for tenders and bids.
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, regulators and other project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced engineers.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you should have
- A degree in Electrical Engineering .
- Proven experience designing industrial power distribution systems at 11k V and 400V .
- Working knowledge of the technical interface between privately owned power distribution systems and DNO / National Grid systems .
- Experience working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards .
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of applicable safety, environmental and quality standards , legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience delivering construction projects in accordance with
CDM requirements.
- Experience producing technical designs in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
- Experience creating electrical specifications and associated drawings.
- A proven ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to undertake engineering calculations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- The ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
The following would be advantageous
- Previous experience working directly for or with a
DNO .
- Experience of
HV installation and testing .
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
- A formal project management qualification, such as
APM PMQ .
- Experience leading projects with increased complexity and scope.
- Experience within the nuclear, decommissioning, energy or major industrial sectors .
- Experience providing technical input into tenders, bids and engineering proposals.
