Overview

We are working with a leading international engineering and construction company delivering complex infrastructure projects across the energy, water, transportation and defence sectors. The organisation provides integrated engineering, project management and construction services, supporting clients with the delivery, upgrade and maintenance of critical national infrastructure. An exciting opportunity is available for a Lead/Principal Technical Safety Engineer to support a major upgrade project at a UK oil and gas terminal. The work will focus on ensuring the facility remains safe and operational through to its planned end-of-life beyond 2040. This role offers the chance to contribute to a significant infrastructure project while working within a collaborative and experienced technical safety team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality technical safety documentation in line with project budgets and delivery timelines.
  • Identify hazards and ensure risks are reduced to ALARP through appropriate studies and risk assessments.
  • Deliver key technical safety outputs including risk assessments, DSEAR assessments, and Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) reports and drawings.
  • Prepare assessments and specifications for Fire & Gas (F&G) detection, Active Fire Protection (AFP), and Passive Fire Protection (PFP) systems.
  • Lead technical safety work packages and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Manage and coordinate third-party consultants delivering studies such as Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) and F&G mapping.
  • Liaise with discipline leads and project stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are fully integrated into project delivery.

Team & Support

You will initially work within a small technical safety team, with additional support available from a wider group of engineers ranging from graduate to principal level and led by an experienced Chief Design HSE Engineer.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working on projects within UK COMAH regulated sites.
  • Strong background in technical safety engineering within major energy, process, or industrial projects.
  • Experience producing and reviewing key technical safety studies and documentation.
  • Familiarity with operator-specific standards and procedures.
