Our client, a major player in the clean energy sector, is looking for a Software Systems Engineer to take ownership of their renewable energy data platform – ensuring it runs smoothly 24/7, evolves with the business, and continues to help drive the UK’s clean energy transition.

This is a hands-on technical role maintaining and improving a LAMP-based data collection and reporting system hosted on AWS. The platform pulls in data from renewable energy sites across the UK, monitors system performance, flags faults, and generates reports to help keep everything running at peak efficiency.

What you’ll be doing

• Keep the system running — maintain high uptime, manage backups, and respond quickly to faults.
• Manage and monitor data flows — oversee continuous data collection from multiple renewable sites.
• Enhance reporting — develop high-quality, insightful reports for management and operations.
• User support — assist internal and external users with technical queries.
• System improvements — plan and implement upgrades to ensure scalability and efficiency.

What we’re looking for

Essential skills:

• Apache server configuration and maintenance
• CRON, email, and FTP management
• CMS (WordPress) – both frontend and backend
• SQL Server (MySQL/MariaDB) — admin, data analysis, and database design
• Basic Python

Nice-to-have skills:

• C programming
• Other high-level languages (Python, Java, C++)

• A problem-solver who enjoys diagnosing and fixing complex issues
• Comfortable working independently but happy to collaborate with colleagues across the business
