Scalable Laser is developing disruptive high power laser technology for use in power beaming, defence and low carbon applications. Our technology is based upon a tiled array of photonic crystal surface emitting lasers (TAPCSEL) cooled by our novel diamond evaporative heat exchanger (DEHX).The combination of these two technologies gives high power, high beam quality and high brightness.Scalable Laser receives funding from the Advanced Research and Inventions Agency (ARIA) to work with the University of Glasgow and Durham University to demonstrate a power beaming system.Scalable Laser is expecting delivery of a bespoke laser patterning tool by the end of the year.
In this role you would lead the development of manufacturing the DEHX using the laser writing tool and etching.Working with the wider team you would contribute to the test, modelling and redesign to achieve highest refrigeration performance from DEHX along with also looking at methods to integrate the TAPCSEL onto the DEHX.
You should be:
- capable of working independently and using your initiative
- happy to review technical data with the wider team to formulate a plan
- accountable for, and motivated to, execute a plan on time
- an excellent scientist and engineer
- safety conscious
Experience
MSc / MEng or higher in science or engineering
- Working in a clean room/laboratory/test lab environment
- Working with chemicals
- Working with a computer aided manufacturing e.g. e-beam lithography, laser marking, more widely any CNC machine
- Experience of using software to capture data from instruments
