Due to continued growth and an increasing pipeline of exciting new projects, we’re recruiting an experienced CAD Technician to join our in-house Professional Services team, responsible for producing technical drawings, plans and 3D models across a wide range of sports construction projects.
You will play a key role in the design and delivery of new sports facilities across the UK, translating design specifications into accurate, buildable construction information. You will produce and manage high-quality technical drawings and 3D models across tender, planning, construction and as-built stages, ensuring information is accurate, coordinated and compliant.
Working closely with Project Managers, Contract Managers, Surveyors and site teams, your drawings will directly inform procurement, construction and quality assurance. Your contribution will help reduce risk, improve buildability and support our commitment to delivering projects safely, efficiently and to exacting standards.
This role is ideal for an established CAD Technician with expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D), and a proven ability to read and interpret complex architectural, civil and structural drawings and specifications. You’ll bring excellent communication and problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
We are specialists in sports construction, placemaking and professional services. For 35 years we’ve been a trusted partner to schools, universities, councils, sports clubs and major organisations nationwide — delivering first-class facilities for clients ranging from Everton FC to Eton College and Oxford University to Birmingham City Council.
We design, build and maintain sports pitches, courts, tracks and multi-use games areas, all independently tested to meet or exceed the standards of FIFA, the FA, World Rugby, the LTA and other governing bodies of sport.
Our in-house Professional Services team supports clients at every stage, from feasibility and funding through to design, planning and project handover, helping turn ambitious ideas into successful, buildable projects.
Guided by our strapline ‘constructed with integrity’, we operate safely, responsibly and ethically — underpinning our reputation for quality, expertise and long-term value.
Reporting to the Head of Professional Services your key responsibilities will include:
- Drafting and Design: Generate detailed 2D construction drawings, layouts, and schematics using AutoCAD and other relevant software, strictly adhering to project specifications and industry standards.
- 3D Modelling: Create 3D models and visualisations of sports facilities to assist in design review and client presentations.
- Document Management: Organise, maintain, and update the master drawing set, ensuring all parties are working from the latest revisions (e.g., plans, profiles, cross-sections, and details).
- Standards and Compliance: Ensure all drawings comply with relevant governing bodies, including but not limited to, FIFA, FA, RFU, ECB, the IAAF (World Athletics).
- Coordination: Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Contract Managers, Surveyors, and subcontractors to integrate structural, civil and M&E plans.
- Quantity Take-offs: Assist the estimating and procurement department by generating accurate material quantity take-offs directly from the CAD drawings.
- Site Support: Respond to RFIs (Requests for Information) from the construction site and quickly implement necessary drawing changes.
- Quality Control: Review and check drawings created by other team members for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards.
What you’ll bring:
- Education: Degree or technical certification in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Civil Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in CAD drafting, preferably within sports, civil, landscape, or commercial construction.
- Technical Knowledge: Proven ability to read and interpret complex architectural, civil, and structural drawings and specifications. RIBA Plan of Work awareness.
- Sports Focus (Highly Desired): Experience or specific knowledge related to sports facility construction (e.g., surface layers, drainage systems for fields, track geometry, lighting plans).
- Planning Awareness (Desired): Able to understand the planning process, protocols, requirements etc.
- Software Proficiency: Expert level proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D); Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D is highly preferred (for grading and earthwork calculations); Familiarity with Promap, Revit or other BIM software is a plus.
What we’re looking for:
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to drafting and checking dimensions, clearances, and tolerances.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical staff.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive ability to identify conflicts and constructability issues within the design and propose practical solutions.
