Test Technician

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Test Technician to join a leading engineering business specialising in bespoke automation and special purpose machinery.

Working closely with the Automation, Engineering and Project teams, you'll be responsible for carrying out Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and functional testing of complex automated machinery, ensuring systems perform to specification before customer handover.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in automated machinery, commissioning or controls who enjoys hands-on testing and fault finding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) on automated machinery.
  • Carry out functional testing in line with detailed test procedures and customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks and automation equipment.
  • Identify, document and report faults, deviations and test failures.
  • Support fault finding and corrective actions with Automation and Engineering teams.
  • Complete all test documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Produce detailed reports on testing activities and outcomes.
  • Liaise with customer validation teams during FAT and on-site commissioning.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes and procedures.
  • Support commissioning activities when required.
  • Travel to customer sites in the UK and internationally as projects require.

About You

  • Formal engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, HNC, HND or equivalent).
  • Previous experience testing automated machinery or production equipment.
  • Basic understanding of PLCs, HMIs and industrial automation systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Profinet and Ether Net/IP.
  • Familiarity with vision systems, weighing systems or similar automation equipment.
  • Experience of FAT, SAT, commissioning or equipment validation.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and methodical approach to testing.
  • Confident communicating with customers and internal engineering teams.
  • Flexible to travel and occasionally work extended hours when required.
