An established engineering and manufacturing business based in Stoke–on–Trent is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing design team. The company specialises in the design and manufacture of bespoke industrial process equipment, delivering innovative engineering solutions to customers across a range of sectors. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing bespoke mechanical systems and machinery using SolidWorks. Working closely with project, manufacturing and commissioning teams, you will take designs from initial concept through to production and installation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
- Designing bespoke mechanical equipment and assemblies
- Producing bills of materials (BOMs) and technical documentation
- Liaising with manufacturing teams to support production and assembly
- Supporting projects through the full product lifecycle
- Conducting design calculations and engineering analysis where required
- Working closely with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met
- Assisting with continuous improvement of existing products and design processes
About You
- Experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position
- Strong SolidWorks design experience
- Experience designing industrial machinery, process equipment, special purpose machinery, or similar engineered products
- Knowledge of fabrication, sheet metal, welded structures and mechanical assemblies
- Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation
- Strong problem–solving and communication skills
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Desirable
- Experience with thermal processing equipment, furnaces, kilns, dryers, ovens or process plant equipment
- Familiarity with FEA and engineering calculations
- Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
