We’re working with a leading global manufacturer of premium scientific and chemical processing equipment, serving the pharmaceutical and wider chemistry sectors. With a long-standing reputation for quality and innovation, this organisation designs and produces advanced laboratory instruments used worldwide.

As part of their continued growth, they’re seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join their multidisciplinary engineering team. This role sits at the intersection of hardware innovation and intelligent control systems—where your code directly drives the tools that enable modern scientific discovery.

The Role

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, developing, and testing firmware and embedded systems that power next-generation laboratory automation products. Working closely with mechanical, electronic, and software engineers, you’ll ensure seamless integration between hardware and software across complex, high-precision instruments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for laboratory automation systems
  • Implement firmware to interface with sensors, actuators, pumps, temperature controllers, and communication peripherals
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve seamless hardware/software integration
  • Conduct debugging, validation, and performance optimisation on target hardware
  • Participate in design and code reviews, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain and manage test tools and equipment used for development activities

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • 3+ years’ experience in embedded software development for real-time systems
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++
  • Solid understanding of RTOS, interrupt-driven programming, and low-level hardware interfacing
  • Experience with Linux OS and microcontrollers (ideally STM32)
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I²C, UART, USB, Modbus, Ethernet
  • Skilled in using debugging tools such as JTAG, oscilloscopes, and microcontroller debuggers
