Reporting to the Production Manager, the Garments Line Manager is responsible for the overall performance and strategic improvement of the entire garments production line. This role owns the process from end to end, ensuring it is efficient, safe, and capable of meeting future business demands. You will focus on long-term goals, process optimisation, and developing the capability of your team to achieve sustained excellence.

Garments Line Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Take full ownership of the garments value stream, analysing performance data to identify opportunities for improvements in quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance production methods, reduce waste, and maximise efficiency, collaborating with the design team on production standards for new products.
  • Work with senior management to plan staffing levels and equipment needs to meet long-term production forecasts.
  • Develop and present regular reports on departmental KPIs, including output, quality metrics, and limited-edition range progress.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Production Supervisor and Workflow Coordinator.
  • Conduct formal performance reviews across the team, manage career development plans, and handle escalated disciplinary issues.
  • Take the lead on hiring decisions for the department, ensuring the team has the right skills and headcount to succeed.
  • Take overall accountability for the successful onboarding of new starters, ensuring they receive a comprehensive induction and are integrated effectively into the team.
  • Oversee the skills development and training strategy for the department, ensuring the team has the technical capabilities and process knowledge to meet current and future production demands.
  • Champion a culture of high performance, safety, and continuous improvement, ensuring company policies are consistently upheld.
  • Support the training of new and existing staff on workflow processes and production systems, ensuring everyone understands the movement of work from start to finish.
  • Provide valuable input into improving process efficiency and support the implementation of Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Maintain up-to-date, expert knowledge on all software systems used in your daily duties.
  • Support by ensuring daily safety checks are completed and recorded according to procedure.
  • Lead by example by maintaining high personal standards, adhering to all processes, and demonstrating CODE values at all times.

  • The ability to analyse production data, identify long-term trends, and develop strategic plans to improve quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing direct reports, including conducting performance reviews, managing career development, and handling formal employee relations issues.
  • A comprehensive understanding of textile properties, production methods, and quality standards, sufficient to lead process improvements and troubleshoot complex technical challenges.
  • Proven IT skills with ability to demonstrate working knowledge of Factory Master and MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication, being both personable and approachable with the ability to adapt your style.
  • Experience communicating effectively with senior management, collaborating with other departments and clearly articulating the department's vision to the wider team.
  • A track record of resolving systemic operational issues and making sound, data-driven decisions that have a long-term impact on the department's success.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through periods of change, fostering adaptability and maintaining morale and performance.
  • Proven experience to work independently, flexibly, and professionally – dealing with stressful and changeable situations.
  • Desirable
  • A qualification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (e.g., Green Belt), or a similar methodology would be a significant advantage.
  • Experience in planning, executing, and successfully delivering departmental improvement projects on time and within budget.
  • Advanced MRP/ERP system experience beyond day-to-day use, including leveraging the system for strategic capacity planning, forecasting, and performance reporting.
