The Senior VAT Analyst is an integral member of Sazerac’s Global Tax organization, responsible for managing VAT compliance and advisory matters across the company’s international operations. This role ensures accurate and timely VAT reporting, drives VAT cash flow optimization, and identifies opportunities to maximize input credits, refunds, and process efficiencies.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed audit documentation to support VAT filings and address tax authority inquiries.
- Collaborate with auditors and external advisors to manage and resolve audit findings.
- Maintain a comprehensive VAT risk matrix while implementing controls to mitigate non-compliance risks.
- Maximize VAT input credits and recovery opportunities through proactive analysis.
- Manage and track refund claims across jurisdictions.
- Identify and implement VAT-efficient structuring opportunities in supply chain and intercompany transactions.
- Partner with procurement and logistics to ensure correct VAT treatment of purchases, imports, and exports.
- Conduct periodic reviews to confirm all eligible input credits are accurately captured and reported.
- Provide VAT guidance on new business models, transactions, and system enhancements.
- Advise on indirect tax implications of supply chain changes, new market entries, and acquisitions.
- Monitor global VAT legislative updates and assess their business impact.
- Deliver VAT training and best-practice workshops to finance, commercial, and operations teams.
- Drive automation of VAT data extraction, reconciliation, and filing using ERP and analytics tools.
- Collaborate with IT and Finance to enhance VAT configurations in systems like Oracle or SAP.
- Develop standardized VAT processes and training materials across regions.
- Lead workflow simplification initiatives to reduce manual reporting time.
- Coordinate timely and accurate VAT return preparation and filing across multiple jurisdictions with external advisors.
- Reconcile VAT accounts and ensure proper ERP postings.
- Maintain compliance with local and international VAT regulations.
- Support monthly and annual close processes with accurate VAT accruals and reconciliations.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Solid experience in VAT compliance, analysis, and planning within multinational organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or taxation.
- In-depth understanding of global VAT regulations, reporting, and recovery mechanisms.
- Strong ERP (Oracle, SAP) and Excel skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-jurisdictional VAT filings and refunds.
- Strong attention to detail and process ownership.
- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with ability to drive continuous improvement.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
