Turn your designs into something real! Are you a CAD-savvy Draughtsperson who enjoys seeing your designs come to life? Would you like to join a friendly, family-run engineering business where your ideas, input and attention to detail genuinely make a difference?

Sayers Road Tankers Engineering is looking for an enthusiastic Engineering Draughtsperson to join its growing team in Northallerton. We manufacture specialist road tankers for a range of important industries, from milk transportation and farm collection through to hazardous waste, potable water and firefighting applications. Our products are built to a high standard, and we're looking for someone who can help us keep pushing quality and design forward.

This isn't simply a role where you'll be producing drawings and passing them on. You'll work closely with our Senior Draughtsperson, General Manager and shop floor team, playing an important part in turning designs into finished products.

What will you be doing?

It's a varied role offering plenty of opportunity to develop your engineering and design skills. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing detailed engineering drawings for the manufacture of specialist road tankers.
  • Creating 3D models and visualisations using SolidWorks.
  • Working with colleagues and the manufacturing team to develop practical, effective designs.
  • Reviewing and improving existing drawings, incorporating feedback to get things right first time.
  • Ensuring designs meet relevant engineering standards and industry regulations.
  • Maintaining an organised library of technical drawings and documentation.
  • Supporting the purchasing of laser-cut components and other parts required for production.
  • Liaising with suppliers, monitoring component pricing and exploring alternative options.
  • Operating laser engraving and sticker-printing equipment to produce finished product plates and labels.

You'll also have the opportunity to get involved in other areas of the business, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and taking ownership.

What are we looking for?

We're not expecting to find someone who ticks every single box. Finding the right attitude, ability and willingness to learn is just as important as previous experience.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Experience using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • A background in technical drawing, engineering or product design.
  • An understanding of sheet metal fabrication, welding or mechanical engineering.
  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
  • The confidence to work independently and take projects forward.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with people across different departments.
  • A practical, commercially minded approach to design and problem-solving.
  • Experience with SolidWorks sheet metal, weldments and assemblies would be particularly advantageous.
  • Relevant engineering or drafting qualifications would be welcomed, but they're not essential.

If you have solid CAD experience and the right attitude, we'd love to hear from you.

What's in it for you?

Joining Sayers means becoming part of a close-knit team where you're more than just another employee. In return, we offer:

  • Salary from £32,000, depending on experience.
  • 20 days' annual holiday, including the Christmas shutdown, plus bank holidays.
  • A friendly, supportive working environment.
  • A varied role where you can make a genuine contribution.
  • Training and development opportunities to broaden your skills.
  • The opportunity to grow with an established family-run engineering business.
  • A casual working environment where everyone's contribution matters.

Ready to put your skills to work? If you're looking for an engineering design role where you can take ownership, develop your skills and see the real-world results of your work, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today and take the next step with Sayers Road Tankers Engineering.
