Build it. Weld it. Take pride in it.
Are you an experienced Stainless Steel Welder looking for something more than repetitive production-line work?
Would you enjoy taking ownership of complete engineering projects, seeing your work develop from individual components into a finished specialist tanker?
Sayers Road Tankers Engineering is looking for a skilled Vessel Welder to join its manufacturing team at Leeming Bar.
We manufacture specialist road tankers for a range of industries, including chemical transportation, food and dairy, and potable water. Every vessel is different, and the quality of the finished product depends on the skill, precision and craftsmanship of the people building it.
This is an opportunity to work on interesting, technically demanding projects, with typical vessel builds taking around 2–4 weeks from start to finish.
If you're a confident TIG and MIG welder with strong stainless steel experience and genuine pride in your workmanship, we'd love to hear from you.
What will you be doing?
You'll play a key role in the complete fabrication and welding of specialist tanker vessels, taking projects from initial components through to finished builds.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Fabricating, fitting and welding tanker barrels, dished ends, baffles, sumps, sub-frames and mountings.
- TIG and MIG welding stainless steel, working with materials ranging from 1mm sheet through to 10mm plate and flanges.
- Fabricating and purge-welding hygienic pipework, valves, manifolds and CIP lines.
- Taking responsibility for your own weld preparation, tacking, fitting, grinding, blending and finishing.
- Reading and interpreting technical fabrication drawings, welding symbols and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Managing your own equipment, purge arrangements and workload to keep projects running smoothly.
- Working within vessels and at height on tanker access platforms, following the appropriate safety procedures.
- You'll have the opportunity to take real ownership of your work, with the satisfaction of seeing each vessel through to completion.
What we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced welder who combines technical ability with a meticulous approach and a genuine passion for producing quality work.
You'll ideally have:
- Proven experience TIG and MIG welding stainless steel.
- Experience working with stainless steel thicknesses from 1mm to 10mm.
- Strong fabrication, fitting and technical drawing skills.
- Experience with back-purging and hygienic pipework welding.
- The ability to produce high-quality welds capable of passing NDT, radiography, dye penetrant and hydrostatic testing.
- The confidence to work independently and take responsibility for complete builds.
- Excellent attention to detail and high personal standards.
- A positive, practical approach to problem-solving.
- Experience working in confined spaces or at height would be advantageous, although relevant safety training will be provided.
- A practical welding assessment may form part of the interview process.
What's in it for you?
As well as the opportunity to work on some interesting specialist engineering projects, Sayers offers a competitive package and working hours that allow you to enjoy your weekends.
Here's what's on offer:
- £17.00–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.
