The Stephen Perse Foundation is entering a significant and energising period in its 145-year history. Rooted in the founding ethos of Dr Stephen Perse – widening opportunity and enriching the community – the Foundation is a dynamic family of schools and nurseries educating boys and girls from age one to eighteen across Cambridge and Saffron Walden. With an exceptional academic reputation, a warm and inclusive culture, and a clear commitment to social purpose, Stephen Perse offers an outstanding all-through independent education within the unparalleled intellectual and cultural environment of Cambridge.

We are seeking an outstanding Principal to lead the Foundation into its next chapter of strategic evolution. This is a rare opportunity to serve as Principal of a financially strong, award-winning organisation with real momentum and ambition. The Principal will provide clear strategic leadership across a thriving multi-school Foundation, ensuring continued academic excellence while advancing our commitment to equity, access and partnership working. Central to the role is a deep belief that independent education can and should be a force for public good.

The successful candidate will bring significant senior leadership experience in education, ideally within an independent or multi-school organisation, together with the strategic clarity, financial and commercial acumen, and people-centred leadership required to guide the Foundation through a changing sector landscape. They will inspire confidence through authenticity, integrity and humility; build strong, collaborative relationships with staff, governors, parents and partners; and foster a culture in which pupils and staff are known, supported and able to flourish.

This role offers genuine strategic scope: shaping the long-term future and reach of the Foundation, leading curriculum innovation, investing in people and facilities, and strengthening partnerships that widen opportunity and social mobility. Supported by an experienced Governing Body and a highly capable Executive Team, the Principal will have the opportunity to build a lasting legacy at one of the UK’s leading independent foundations.
