As a Senior Software Engineer in this Networking organisation, you will work on Products developing a Network that grows smarter, more agile, and more responsive whether accessing the phone, streaming video, texting etc – your interactions are being enabled by these technologies. Driven by a relentless pursuit of network innovation, you will help make a difference to people's lives, drive the development of a Debian Linux Network Operating System (NOS) in order to support customers in developing and deploying their virtualised networks, working in a team of 40 Engineers.
The Senior Software Engineer will design and implement these Network Components and Routing Protocols to drive the future architecture and implementation of these components in their new Operating System product line. This powers routing and switching offerings. The Product is used by Service Providers, Hyperscalers, and Enterprise Networks to deliver Ethernet and IP Services. The company’s Network Operating System (NOS) is a telco grade network services architecture, a modified Linux network operating system. Their Network Operating System can be used to control hardware network devices or as a virtual router leveraging a software dataplane. It provides a broad set of routing protocols and other network features, as well as cutting-edge configuration and observability capabilities.
What you'll need:
- Technical leadership for a significant development or project, with some demonstrable experience operating as a Subject Matter Expert.
- Demonstrable experience designing and writing significant code content from scratch, rather than porting or modifying existing SDKs, Sockets etc.
- Alongside a stated enthusiasm, can also demonstrate some tangible interest in Networking Concepts and application of Data Structures and Algorithms.
- Understand Core Networking concepts such as IP Addressing, CIDR, subnets etc.
- An understanding of Routing Concepts and if possible, Protocols, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS etc.
- 5+ years relevant experience with the ability to write quality C code under Linux with a good understanding of this OS and open source software development, debugging.
- It would be useful if you have some knowledge in software development of Data Forwarding paths (Software, Hardware), L2/L3 Networking or equivalent Control Plane Technologies, or network merchant silicon chipsets and Whitebox platforms.
- Experience in troubleshooting large-scale deployments, manageability frameworks such as Yang/XML, virtualization technologies such as Intel DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit), SR-IOV, etc.
