SaxaVord UK Spaceport, located on the island of Unst in Shetland, Scotland, is the UK's only fully licensed vertical space launch site, regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). We provide direct access to key low‑earth orbits and offer a comprehensive range of launch and ground station services to global clients. SaxaVord supports customers throughout the launch process, leveraging expert guidance and advanced engineering and data facilities. As a key player in the UK’s space economy, we are committed to cultivating a highly skilled workforce, promoting STEM education, and fostering economic growth in Shetland’s local communities. Founded in 2017, we operate from the historic RAF Saxa Vord site and the nearby Lamba Ness launch site.
Role Description
This is a full‑time hybrid position for a Range Operations Manager. The role involves overseeing day‑to‑day range operational activities, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and managing operations for space launch and ground services. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external teams to plan, coordinate, and execute launches while maintaining operational efficiency and safety. The role is based in Grantown‑On‑Spey, Scotland, but some work‑from‑home flexibility may be accommodated.
Qualifications
- Strong operational and leadership skills, with experience in managing complex projects and cross‑functional teams.
- Understanding safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and risk management practices in a technical or aerospace environment.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills to work effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- A background in engineering, aerospace, or a related technical field is highly desirable, along with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
