Purpose of the Role To maintain high standards of cleanliness across the mall during early evening hours and deliver safe, efficient waste and recycling operations through late‑night trade. This role supports retailer operations, environmental compliance, and the overall presentation of the centre.
Key Responsibilities
- 18:00–20:00 – Mall Cleaning
- Complete scheduled mall cleaning tasks, including floors, touchpoints, toilets, and high‑traffic areas.
- Respond to spillages, hazards, and cleaning requests from the Duty Manager or retailers.
- Ensure all public areas remain clean, safe, and presentable during evening trade.
- Restock consumables and maintain cleaning equipment in good working order.
- Report any maintenance issues (lighting, leaks, damage, etc.) observed during cleaning rounds.
- 20:00–00:00 – Waste & Recycling Operations
- Carry out waste collections from retailers closing after late‑night trade.
- Segregate waste correctly across all streams: general waste, cardboard, mixed recycling, food waste, WEEE, and hazardous waste.
- Operate compactors, balers, and waste equipment safely and in line with training.
- Keep the service yard, waste compound, and loading bays clean, tidy, and hazard‑free.
- Monitor contamination and report incorrect waste disposal or misuse of waste areas.
- Support retailers with waste queries and access to waste facilities during late‑night hours.
- Environmental & Safety Compliance
- Follow all environmental procedures, including duty of care and safe handling of materials.
- Report spills, leaks, pest activity, or environmental risks immediately.
- Adhere to all site safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe systems of work.
- Complete dynamic risk assessments when handling waste or operating machinery.
- Report hazards, near misses, or unsafe behaviour to the Duty Manager.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in cleaning, waste handling, or facilities roles (preferred).
- Understanding of recycling streams and environmental good practice.
- Ability to work independently during quieter late‑night periods.
- Good communication skills and a proactive, reliable approach.
- Physically capable of handling waste materials and operating equipment safely.
Working Hours & Salary
- Part‑time, 18 hours per week.
- Evening shift every Thursday, Friday, Saturday 18:00 – 00:00.
- Salary: £13.89 per hour.
