Purpose of the Role
The Operational Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high‑quality cleaning and waste management services across the shopping centre, including the service deck, car park and mall environments. This role provides operational leadership and coordination across cleaning and waste teams, ensuring standards, schedules and compliance requirements are achieved. The role works closely with the Environment Duty Manager, who retains direct line management responsibility. The Supervisor focuses on day‑to‑day operational direction, performance monitoring and quality assurance. The supervisor will act as an ambassador for cleanliness, sustainability, and customer experience, supporting initiatives to improve recycling rates and maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for all users of the centre.
Key Responsibilities
- Waste / Service Deck
- Oversee service deck operations and ensure all scheduled tasks are completed (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Periodic Tasks)
- Coordinate waste collection, segregation and recycling
- Maintain clean, safe and compliant waste areas
- Monitor task completion and report issues
- Be hands on where required to support the waste team
- Drive engagement with retail tenants and cleaning teams to improve recycling performance and reduce general waste.
- Support consistent waste segregation practices across both back‑of‑house and mall areas.
- Work with the Soft Services Manager and Environmental Manager to identify opportunities to improve sustainability performance and increase recycling revenue streams
- Have a good knowledge of all facilities and processes in order to deal with customer’s queries, complaints and compliments in line with company procedure
- Ensure that all areas of responsibility are cleaned to the required standards and that all machinery is well maintained
- Monitor weather conditions, and implement gritting procedure in winter months where required
- Car Park Cleaning
- Supervise and coordinate the cleaning operations within the centre’s car park, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors
- Support and oversee the car park cleaning team to ensure all daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic tasks are completed in line with agreed schedules
- Conduct inspections and maintain standards
- Respond to customer issues
- Mall Cleaning
- Provide day‑to‑day operational coordination of the mall cleaning teams to ensure all public areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation
- Work alongside the Environment Duty Manager to ensure all mall cleaning schedules (daily, periodic and reactive) are delivered effectively
- Monitor completion of cleaning tasks and documentation (e.g. check sheets, Over-C app) and address any gaps or performance issues in real time
- Provide on‑ground guidance and support to cleaning operatives to maintain consistency in standards, safe working practices and correct use of equipment
- Ensure consistent standards and ways of working across all cleaning and waste functions through coaching, guidance and visible leadership
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence within the mall, supporting a positive customer experience and acting as a point of escalation for cleanliness‑related issues
- Ensure cleaning operations are delivered in a way that minimises disruption to customers and retailers during trading hours
- Support onboarding, training and ongoing development of team members in operational procedures, equipment use and safety compliance
- Ensure all machinery is checked, cleaned and maintained in line with manufacturers recommendations.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- The ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery used in waste recycling processes
- The ability to walk, bend, push, pull and lift repetitively during working hours
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage and disposal methods
- Ability to operate complex machinery (after training) such as compactors and balers
- Experience of waste management and sustainability practices
- Self‑motivated with ability to identify and complete needed tasks without direct supervision
- Confidence and friendly disposition
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexible/supportive team player
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and peak trading periods
Desirable
- BICS or similar cleaning qualification
- Driving licence
- Environmental or sustainability training/awareness
- Health & Safety Certification (IOSH) preferred
Working Hours – 6:30am – 4:30pm / 5 on 2 off Mon‑Fri / 1 weekend out of 4 with days off in lieu
