Purpose of the Role
This electrical building services design role is specifically for working on large complex data centre design projects that will entail both High Voltage and Low Voltage power systems, standby power systems and uninterruptible power systems. The role will consist of working as part of a larger team delivering megawatt data centres.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribution to all RIBA design stages
- Production of detailed design deliverables including drawings, schedules, specifications and reports
- Production of due diligence reports
- Provide technical surveys detailing existing M&E services infrastructure
- Carrying out feasibility studies
- Full responsibility of complete projects from start to finish
- Design studies and calculations
- Perform the role of key contact person on projects
- Attending co-ordination meetings, workshops and client progress meetings
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders
- Contractor monitoring and oversight
- Peer review and client monitoring roles
- Building long term relationships and focus on repeat business
- Mentor and manage junior engineers
- Check and approve contractor shop drawings and technical submittals prior to construction
- Witness and review tests and mock-ups carried out both on and off site
- Inspect works and issue quality, defects and practical completion lists
In addition to the tasks described above, the job holder may be required to carry out other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time.
Qualifications
- Ideally a minimum of a 2:2 in Electrical Engineering or Building Services degree
- Approximately 5-7 years of industry experience, preferably in data centres and high resilience infrastructure projects
- Membership with either CIBSE and/or IMechE
- Registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or actively working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Fully versed in UK building regulations, British Standards and CIBSE Standards
- Proficiency in electrical protection and discrimination using software such as ElectricalOM and/or Etap
- Proficiency in lighting design using software such as Dialux
- Familiar with 2D and 3D drawing software such as AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Report writing and presentation skills
- Sound written and verbal communication skills
- Effective client and professional team liaison skills
- Participates effectively and constructively in teams
- Diligence, rigor and attention to detail
- Effective project planning and administration
- Time management skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams
- Creativity, vision and problem-solving skills
- Ability to make decisions appropriate to the position
- Familiar with HV and LV systems and primary plant equipment
- Understanding of Data Centre Tier classifications
