Purpose of the Role
This electrical building services design role is specifically for working on large complex data centre design projects that will entail both High Voltage and Low Voltage power systems, standby power systems and uninterruptible power systems. The role will consist of working as part of a larger team delivering megawatt data centres. There will be a need to guide other members of the team whilst reporting back to the management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Strong technical knowledge in the electrical engineering discipline and relevant UK/EU/IEC Regulations, including HV/MV systems, large LV systems, MV/LV standby generation plant, UPS systems etc.
- The ability to work as part of a team and effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals within and outside of the Savills team.
- Strong knowledge of contract administration, procurement and conditions of contract/appointment.
- Assist in providing fee proposals upon request, with an understanding of expected resource expenditure required.
- Ability to lead and demonstrate designs to the design team and client.
In addition to the tasks described above, the job holder may be required to carry out other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time.
Qualifications
- Ideally a minimum of a 2:2 in Electrical Engineering or Building Services degree.
- 8-10+ years of industry experience.
- Ideally a membership with either CIBSE and/or IET.
- Chartered Engineer or actively working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Design calculations (including peer reviews).
- Contribution to all RIBA design stages.
- Responsibility for all aspects of assigned project work with an established team, supporting junior members of the team and acting as a technical design lead and mentor.
- Effectively delegating and managing work packages to ensure support and guidance is provided to team members including the mentoring of graduates, apprentices, technical and other staff.
- Production of detailed design deliverables including drawings, schedules, specifications and reports.
- Production of due diligence reports.
- Provide technical surveys detailing existing M&E services infrastructure.
- Carrying out feasibility studies.
- Lead representative at project meetings and workshops and capable of running a complete project.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contractor monitoring and oversight.
- Building long term relationships and focus on repeat business.
- Mentor and manage junior engineers.
- Check and approve contractor shop drawings and technical submittals prior to construction.
- Responding to tenderer/contractor requests for information (RFIs).
- Witness and review tests and mock-ups carried out both on and off site.
- Inspect works and issue quality, defects and practical completion lists.
