Purpose of the Role

To be the operational lead of engineering governance across the UK, leading the engineering governance team and sector support teams, while ensuring delivery of exceptional engineering standards across all managed sites. The Head of Engineering Services is responsible for implementing engineering approaches tailored to specific building types and client requirements, whilst adhering to and reporting on technical governance metrics set by the central business.

Working in collaboration with our Supply Chain, MÆ Consultancy, Safety +, UK Engineering wider teams and other relevant stakeholders, the Head of Engineering Services will drive the evolution of engineering management by being an active participant in boards and working groups. A key focus will be to contribute to technical policies & procedures that ensure our approach remains appropriate across all regions.

Having an awareness of day to day standards and providing expert engineering guidance for both planned and emergency situations is important, as is maintaining relationships with key suppliers, internal stakeholders and clients, as the business needs dictate. While the Engineering Services team are a business support function it is expected the Head of Engineering Services will actively engage and support the growth of the MÆ Services team, including the Regional Engineering Manager network and MÆ Consultancy teams.

Reporting to the Head of UK Engineering, the role will have strategic connections with sector Heads, such as Head of London & UK Business Space, Head of Retail Management and Head of Residential. Whilst the role is a strategic one focused on engineering, it is also an operational role that focuses on a wide ranging skillset and reach that will necessitate input to and leadership for specific projects, conflicts, client relationship duties and business development opportunities requiring the input of a senior operational leader. This can include working through conflicts along with internal stakeholders to reduce our business risk.

Key Responsibilities

• Governance
• Provide regular governance by reporting on operational performance across all sectors.
• Ensure compliance policies established by Safety+ board are fully adhered to by both supply chain and in house personnel.
• Ensure tender and selection policies established by the Supply Chain team are fully adhered to across all aspects of the business.
• Provide guidance and input to both Safety+ and Supply Chain Team to ensure that policy and procedure is both operationally deliverable and relevant to colleagues and stakeholders.
• Risk Management & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations.
• Manage engineering-related risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Lead engineering incident investigations and implement preventative measures.
• Strategic Engineering Leadership
• UK Engineering lead across all sectors.
• UK Engineering / Safety+ Board representative & Senior Leadership team member.
• Develop and implement engineering standards and best practice across sectors.
• Lead technical governance and compliance programs for engineering systems.
• Technical Oversight & Innovation
• Develop a data led approach to the delivery of engineering to Savills managed sites, whether in house or third party serviced.
• Provide technical support to the teams and regional leads including policy development.
• Drive engineering innovation and technology implementation across service lines and sectors.
• Establish and maintain engineering quality standards.
• Ensure that supervision, management and oversight of complex engineering projects and systems upgrades is carried out by qualified personnel in line with Savills policies, CDM and other relevant legislation.
• Lead engineering aspects of mobilisations and set-up of portfolios linked to acquisition of new business.
• Engineering Team Leadership
• Lead and develop the engineering teams across the UK in line with agreed business plan.
• Ensure engineering teams maintain appropriate qualifications and certifications.
• Develop succession planning for key engineering positions.
• Foster knowledge sharing and best practices across engineering teams.
• Client Relationships
• Develop client relationships across the portfolio in conjunction with the appointed CRM’s.
• Implement Client relationship models for all Engineering clients (including where the client may be an internal stakeholder).
• Engineering Focused Stakeholder & Financial Management
• Manage key supplier relationships for engineering services and systems.
• Collaborate with ESG and MÆ Consultancy leadership teams on technical aspects of energy performance.
• Interface with other divisions on engineering related matters.
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations.
• Be financially responsible and accountable for the Engineering and Central London Ops P&L's.
• Manage engineering-related risk assessments and mitigation strategies.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Detailed operational knowledge of managing a range of schemes.
• A solid engineering background with varied experience across a range of development types.
• Proven experience in leading a large and varied team, able to get the absolute best performance out of individuals to contribute to a wider high performing team.
• Able to provide leadership in emergency or demanding situations.
• Able to identify risks to our business and mitigate against such risks, particularly when they are not obvious.
• Able to demonstrate a strong industry relationship with key clients and service partners.
• A good understanding of future challenges to the industry, such as the emergence of Data, ESG related drivers/legislation changes and the emergence of Protect.
• Detailed knowledge of contractual law.
• Able to prioritise under pressure.
• A natural leader, who can inspire and motivate others.

In summary, the ideal candidate should have a strong background in operational and engineering management, excellent leadership skills, and an ability to think strategically. You should have experience in managing diverse teams, be adaptable and have a proven track record of delivering results in high-pressure situations.

Role is based at Finsbury Circus House, London, with time spent equally across the UK regions.
